Kalpitiya Peninsula, situated on the West Coast of Sri Lanka is surrounded on one side by the Indian Ocean and on the other by Kalpitiya’s lagoon, and has become a popular spot for whale watching, during the season from December to April, and dolphin spotting from November to March, along with other sea side activities such as snorkeling wake boarding, paragliding and kite-surfing. Sperm Whales, Blue whales and large numbers of dolphins have been seen including spinner dolphins have been seen. Kalpitiya is 3½ hours drive from Colombo, 2½ hours drive from Negombo and only an hours’ boat ride away from the largest coral reef in Sri Lanka, the “Bar Reef.”
Kalpitiya is also centrally located with access to Wilpattu National Park, the Cultural Triangle, and the Airport. Another charming beach-getaway for those who love sun, sands and surf. And, the amazing thing is that in spite of its beauty, it remains relatively undiscovered and un-crowded!
