Trincomalee

Trincomalee is a port city on the East coast of Sri Lanka about 237 km from Colombo. Trincomalee is good for surfing, scuba diving, fishing and whale spotting and a short distance from the legendary Uppuveli and Nilaweli beaches. You can also visit . Thirukoneswaran or the Temple of the Thousand Pillars, the most famous and elaborate Hindu shrine in Sri Lanka and one of the oldest of its kind
About 20 km Northwest of Trincomalee, Nilaveli which can be translated from Tamil as the “Plains of Moon Light”, is considered one of the most perfect beaches in Sri Lanka. Much has been said about the beach itself with its expanse of balmy coconut palms swaying against impossibly blue skies and the fine white coral sand…the best thing is that the remoteness of this location means when you do get there it wont be crowded at all!  Some parts of this incredible beach provide a natural warm clear water pool waist deep for hundreds of feet out to sea, and while you can swim all year round, the best times are said to be April to October. Other activities include snorkeling and boating to neaby Pigeon island where you can find fascinating live coral formations, and you can also decide to trek over to the wild and deserted beaches of Kuchchaveli . For marine life fans Trincomalee Bay boasts of sightings of Blue Whales, Sperm Whales and Brydes Whales among others
